Let's Go Fly A Kite

I made these mini kites for a local TV show called Studio 5. The segment was on paper cones and I had to make and display paper cones in a unique way. I was nervous when I got this assignment because I just didn't know all the possibilities one could do with a simple paper cone, quickly I found out there is a lot.

After playing around with different sizes of cones, I came across this cloud paper and it inspired me to make them into kites. These mini paper cone kites are my favorite because they are unique and easy to make. It would be fun to get all the neighbor kids out to go fly kites, and when we were done they could each take one of these mini kites home filled with candy.  You know the kids would just LOVE these.

You can can watch the whole segment HERE.

Free printables at the end of this post

Step 1: Cut your 12x12 paper into 4x6 pieces

Step 2. Shape your cone by following this tutorial to make a paper cone. Flatten it down a little to give it more the shape of a kite.

Step 3. Make a loop at one end of your blue wire and thread through the inside of the cone. This will help the wire stay in place and there will be no need for hot glue. Next twist the wire around your finger until you get the shape you want.

Step 4: Next add your ribbon and free printable of choice.

I used a chicken wire frame to display my mini kites. To learn how to make a chicken wire frame in 3 easy steps click HERE

ALL PRINTABLES WERE MADE BY MIMI'S DOLLHOUSE.
