Halloween Ward Party

I thought moving to California I would have all this free time and some how I am finding myself more busy but just a different kind of busy. Instead of decorating parties and blogging it is filled with meeting new friends and taking my son to new fun places. If I do say so myself this is a much better "busy."

Anyways if you follow me on instagram ( @bridgetparry) you may know that in my church I was called to decorate the holiday parties. With some major help from two other lovely ladies we were able to make this massive, plain, boring cultural hall a spooky halloween event all while staying in a small budget.

Below are some pictures of the event. IF only they did justice to how it felt in the room as we played Charlie Browns Halloween movie as the kids sat eating their halloween candy. To start things off we ate outside while listening to monster mash and checking out everyones costumes. (below I posted a few of my favorite). Next we had a trunk or treat where I whipped up our trunk with items I could find around the house. Since I had to decorate the Church the last thing I was interested in was my trunk. Finally, we entered into a spooky hallway into the main room where we had a costume parade, awards and dessert.

With simple Black construction paper the trees and bats were hand traced and taped to the walls.

The drink station... Gross huh?

We had a small match of dirt we made into a cemetery.

Entrance to the spooky hallway. (I didn't end up going because it was too scary for Jaxon) we had the young men in our ward jump out and scare people.

Dessert station where we served root beer floats... aka (witches brew)

Setting up the spooky hallway

My trunk.

OKAY THESE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE COSTUMES OF THE NIGHT.

But my Favorite costume was my little boy because I am biased :)

Gross Hot Dog Fingers

Gross hot dog fingers! These look so real it's hard to get yourself to actually eat one.

HOW TO:

- Cut slits into your hot dogs then boil with sliced onions until the onions are clear and the hot dogs are cooked

- Once cooked use some ketchup to attach the onion sliver to act as a finger nail.

So gross but perfect for Halloween!!

*** not to be mistaken for looking like something else you could serve at a bachelorette party ;)

Witches Brew

How fun is this!? My cute friend new friend here in California threw a Witches Brew party where we had a witch hackle contest, drank spooky drinks, and played games around a bon fire! The decorations amazed me and this girl (whose brother started Yo Gabba Gabba) just went up 30 notches in my book... (I have no idea what that really means other than I have a total girl crush on her now ;) )

If only you could have seen all the decor. My pictures do not do justice to the dark and freaky decor. Her poor children must find it hard to sleep with all the goblins and spooky rats placed strategically around the house to scare the "hibbie - jibbies" out of you.

OH how I love Halloween. Do I dare say it is my favorite holiday? Ah, I don't know its a toss up between that and July holidays in Utah!

The tulle around my arms are toddler tutu's from the 99 cent store here in California! I just wrapped them around my arm twice and it really added to my witch costume. Total cost to make this simple black dress a witch outfit... 4 dollars!

At the end of the night we had a witch hackle contest, played games and gave out awards such as early bird, best costume, most resourceful costume (I won with my toddler tutu's around my arms).
Thanks to Mimi's Dollhouse for providing us with the awards.

Spooky Halloween Drink

This drink will make any Halloween party a HIT. With just a few steps your guest will think you spent hours planning and all you need is just a few statement food and decor items to get your guests
ooooo-ing and awwwww-ing over your display!

Here is the secret tip on how to get that "bloody" drip around the outside of your glass:

YOU NEED:

* Grenadine Syrup (red)
* Red food color
* Ultra fine Pure cane Sugar
* Parchment paper
* Glasses

Optional Garnishes

* Dry Ice
* Cherries
* plastic spider

HOW TO:

1. Pour the grenadine in a shallow bowl with a little bit of red food color.
2. Pour your fine sugar in a different shallow bowl.
3. Dip the rim of your glass in the grenadine and then immediately into the sugar mixture.
4 IF you want the "bloody" drip look then place the cup right side up on the parchment paper, and let it     drip down the glass to create that perfect bloody-look.

- TIP - IF you want just the rim red, then place it upside down onto the parchment paper for it to stay around the rim and not drip down. (This is is good for Christmas time)

Now while the glasses are drying, you can start brewing up your green drink! You can make any sort of green drink or even just use a mixture of sprite and green colored kool-aid. To give your guests a cool atmosphere,  put it in a pot with dry ice and keep stirring to give that effect that you are making a witches potion.  Garnish your drinks with a cherry, dry ice and a little spider on the side and you are ready to PARTY...

BBBBBWWWWAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAA (insert evil witch cackle now )
