Jaxon's room

Jaxon's room got a small, yet great update to his room.

I found this perfect mirror at Homegoods (that and TJMAXX are my FAVS!!) It's not a good sign when they recognize me when I walk in. (This is where I also bought my yellow and burlap pillows from last post.) I cant say I always get stuff but it's right by the All a Dollar and I go there often to get party supplies and ideas.  Sorry that was a side note. . . .  back to the topic, what was it again? Oh right, Jaxon's room. . .

Here is all of Jaxon's room HERE.

This was the wall BEFORE:

NOW it looks like this:

It looks better in person but it fills up the wall better than the other frame and now I can look in the mirror when I walk in every 3 hours when he is screaming at night and see that I DO look as tired and scary as I feel. PERFECT; what girl doesn't want to see that :)

Hoppy Easter

What did you do on Easter? I did this . . . .

Okay I wish . . .

Actually I take that wish back. . . I wish I did eat it but it wouldn't go to my butt! Can the Easter Bunny grant wishes? hmmmmmmm, I guess we will find out in a couple of days when I get on the scale :)

did I mention that I LOVE Reese's . . .  .

In case you didn't know, I DO!

So my husband for Easter gave me this:

And the Bunny gave me this:
Two shirts, shoes, eye covers (yes, I sleep with eye covers and they were a dollar at target), and a beach bag. . . . . What? a beach bag... dang, that means I'm going to be in a swimming suit soon. Looks like I better not eat those Reese's so I can get ready for the beach.

Or I mean don't eat ALL of them, since I already ate most of them, (I'm laughing so hard right now as I wipe chocolate off my face as I type this)

side table redo

My Internet has been out for a week so that means I had to take a break from blogging. It was a good thing because I was able to start and finish a lot of fun projects. . . . which means more fun posts to come. First was this side table I purchased from a thrift store for 15 dollars (the D.I.)

BEFORE

MIDDLE:

Paint it with primer first. Then . . .
(spray painted it with vintage gold from home depot. It took 2 1/2 cans)

Stained a side at a time. ( this is my first time staining and I learned the hard way. Cover edge to edge then wipe it off with a lightly damp towel or rag. Like The next picture, go from edge to edge. DON'T stop half way and wipe off then think you can do the other half, you will get a large noticeable line) If this does happen just cover it all again with stain and wipe it off again.

AFTER:

(notice the vintage milk crate from this post)

The whole living room shot. I hate the color of the couches but FREE is FREE. So I decided to add some new pillows to match my new end table to bring in some color and tie it all togehter.

Ice Cream Party

This ice cream party was my first party I decorated for my sister. Please keep in mind I did not know the importance of photography when doing this party... apparently lol. I like to look at this party for my nieces 2nd birthday and compare it to my nieces 3rd birthday party I decorate  and see how far I have come.

The drink and pizza table (where is the pizza? It came late)
Flowers and a canvas just on an empty box I mod podged added height to the table. Any table needs height and a focal point
I froze some marshmallows to put in the bottom of the punch bowl to give color and keep it cool

Cotton Candy "ice cream cones"

cotton candy, waffle bowls, and cake bites in ice cream cones
It is so easy to do the ice cream look because it doesn't have to be perfect. A little drip here and there makes it look even better!

Cutest ice cream cone marshmallows I found at WalMart
Some of the kids got to the pink animal crackers before I could take pictures . . . Okay it was me I ate too many and didn't realize until I saw this picture... opps,
The toppings

The Cake
I Added a simple black box on top of a pink rug to add textures, layers, and height to the table

The party favors

At the party we played the "ice cream freeze" its the freeze game where you play music then when it stops you freeze. Of course all the kids won these fun ice cream popper toys . . .

(please notice my nephew in the back with a sword down his shirt)

This outfit she wore was the inspiration for the color scheme. It's always good to plan a party around one theme or color scheme.

isn't she just a doll?

(she wouldn't take off her swimming goggles)

I know that was a lot of pictures BUT if you want to see more pictures of the cake click here. If you want to see how to make the cake click here. If you want to see how to make the ice cream cone birthday hat click here

"Melted" Ice Cream Cake Tutorial

Do you want to make this cake?

Then here is how:

First you need to make the batter with one box mix and bake it in two 8 inch pans. (SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY THE CRAP OUT OF THE PAN WITH PAM) hopefully the ALL caps expressed the importance of this step:)

Cool completely.

Lay one on top of the other using frosting.

Okay now for the pictures:

Step 1. Dirty ice the cake.  That means do a thin layer of frosting all over. This will help with keeping the cake from crumbing up on you. (Is crumbing a word? Ah, if not you know what I mean.) Then freeze it for  about 15 mins. This will help the frosting go on eaiser.

Step 2. Cut your Mallows in half and then add them to your cake. (you can pipe frosting here if you are real fancy but I'm not)

Step 3. Melt your chocolate and add oil until it runs off your spoon. It should be the same consistency as a chocolate fountain.

Step 4. I made a cake ball to be my "ice cream." Smash the cake ball down to look like melting ice cream then pour chocolate over the top and just from the top until it runs down the side of the cake. You have to pour it from just the top of the ball to make it look realistic. Then add the cone and sprinkles. Lastly, immediately put in the freezer for the chocolate to harden and for the cone to stay in place.
(for a recipe for a cake ball click here)

. . . and here is where Emeril Lagasse would say B.A.M.

ENJOY!

Ice Cream Cone Hat

I got the idea from onecharmingparty.com but here is my tutorial and a different take on this cute party hat.

(p.s. sorry pics taken with iphone)

Step 1: Buy a headband and a waffle cone

Step 2: Buy ribbon or I used ric rac (honestly I just went into my sisters craft room and looked for anything pink.)

Step 3: Decorate (the pom pom on the top was from a hair elastic)

Step 4: Glue it on the headband

Step 5: DON'T eat the cone :)

Step 6: Stop reading the steps and go enjoy your PARTAY (Imagine me saying that in a loud obnoxious voice)

"Melted" Ice Cream Cake

Today I did a 2 year old birthday party for my cute niece. It was an ice cream themed party and it couldn't of turned out any better! I was stressing over making the cake since I had to do it the morning of the party and was wondering If I should have a back up in case I messed it up. I have to say it was the highlight of the party. (or at least I thought so)

More pictures of the party to come soon but I'm too pooped right now to post them. A room full of 2 year olds and A LOT of sugar . .  . yeah, can you blame me?

Tutorial on the cake and party hat she is wearing coming soon!
