WIWW + Jolley's Boutique Giveaway

Wednesday again? Wow this week is flying by. Today What I Wore Wednesday is Sponsored by Jolley's Boutique in Salt lake on 1300 south and 1700 east.

My cute bag and necklace is from their amazing boutique.  I love the trend of neon and neutrals that is all the craze right now. I love it in party decor, home accessories, but even better in hand bags :) I so almost fainted when I saw this bag. I may have had a little convo out loud to the bag that went a little something like this:
"Hello there beautiful, I think I will take you home!"

To see more of what they have in their boutique you can click here... Trust me you will want to see what else they have because one of you is going to win some money to spend in their store.

Lipstick: Vegas Volt from Mac
Pants: Forever 21
Shirt: Tjmaxx
Watch: Michael Kores
Bracelets: Vintage, I think? I took them out of my moms jewelry closet... shhhhh ;)

Wow those are some roots :(

My favorite thing about this 10 dollar shirt is the back. I am laughing in this picture because my mom is cat calling me, "work it, work it girl" I still feel awkward taking pictures.

My necklace. I love the vintage/granny feel to it :)

This outfit is dressy yet comfortable. Perfect for a lunch date with friends.

Kirsten from The Crafting Chicks. Me (obviously), and Jamielyn from I heart Nap Time

Craft Wars Party. Who is in?

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION. I have a HUGE announcement... any guesses by the above logo?

You guessed it.... I am not crafty enough to be on Craft Wars!

BUT...

my cute friend Mandi from Vintage Revivals will be on the show with her friend Jilly from Girls With Good Taste. Now this isn't Mandi's first rodeo, she has been on The Nate Berkus show. That's right, she stood next to that tall glass of water :)

can I get a gasp on the count of three. 1....2.....3....

Since I feel like a proud mom of hers, I will be hosting a BIG SHIN-DIG to watch the premier of Craft Wars on TLC at my parents house. Now we cant give out any deets on when her show airs, or how well they do. So if you ask, we wont answer. If we do, Mandi's life, she signed over in that big stack of papers people call a contract, will be over.

Now for the deets we CAN share...

This is going to be a fun girls night/get together with crafters, bloggers, friends,  fans of Mandi!

... and/or me... (echo echo, is there any one out there?) Ha, no I am only teasing.

This is for ANYONE who wants to have a good time with out children :) It is a great excuse to get a bunch of girls together to meet one another, eat food, take home some SWAG from Pick Your Plum, and win some KILLER giveaways via our sponsors... OH and of course, watch the show.

This event will be CASUAL and held at my parents house in Davis County. In order to keep the cops from busting this killer party we are are opening it up only to the first 100 RSVP'S

You can RSVP to this Uh-Mazing "Craft Wars Girls Night" held July 3rd at 7:00 pm by entering your information HERE.

Once we get to 100 rvsp's we will send out an email giving you directions to the house and more details. Feel free to share with your friends who you know would enjoy a fun night out.

I can't wait to see you all there!

Jolley's Boutique

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR, AHHHH

I Just found a gem of a store! It is like the mothership of all boutique's.

I am kinda bummed I didn't know sooner because when I went to college at the University Of Utah I would often come to this intersection on 1300 s and 1700 east. They have an amazing fresh market and breakfast place. Little did I know behind the sign that says Jolley's Pharmacy, there was an explosion of AWESOMENESS!

Jolley's corner Pharmacy is not your average pharmacy.

For reals ladies, you are going to die. I walked in and said this was pinterest inside of a store. There was just so much to look at and I didn't know where to start. This is no lie, I was in there for 3 hours the first time, and another 2 hours the next time I went. It is like a baby boutique got married to a clothing department and had a baby that liked candy, jewelry, and home decor.

I have two favorite thing about this store. One is that everything is one of a kind. If you see it then you need to buy it because they are always switching up their store. I love unique jewelry that are statement pieces, yet not everyone has them so I was just in heaven looking over all their fun accessories.

Number two is besides the fact that they everything under the sun for people of all ages, they have this nostalgic feel to the place.
I felt like I stepped back into time when I was there for more than a couple minutes. I watched people come in and out that told me they have been coming here for years. I saw little kids lined up to get their penny candy. I saw the employees greet all the customers by name. I felt as if this is how it used to be when there was one store back in the day and it was the best hang out in the town. It may sound cheesy, but I felt like I was family there. I can honestly say it made me want to move to Sugar House and take my son on walks to hit up Eggs In the City and cross the street to hit up Jolley's for some penny candy. I want to create those fond memories for my son that so many people told me they had  living close to this family owned business.

Now keep in mind there are a lot of Jolley's around Utah, but this is the only one that has a boutique like this.

You must check it out!!!

They have Jewelry:

Seasonal decor:

Candy! (my son's favorite part)

Toddler and baby:

Play area for kids

Surrounding fun spots to make this a whole afternoon:

They have a shaved ice shack right outside the store. A yummy local breakfast stop that is one you would find in a New York, and a local market. I just love this spot in the middle of the avenues. It feels like a little spot preserved from back in the old days and when I mean old days I don't mean just when I was in college, even though it brings back those memories to. I remember sitting at that breakfast cafe crying my eyes out over a boy that dumped me... ha ha... maybe it is a good thing I didn't know about Jolley's boutique or I would of done some major shopping therapy.

Do Over Moment...

Anyone wished for a rewind button on certain times in their lives? I often, maybe too often, say, "oh I should of..., or I wish I..." and I just wish I could have a rewind button. For those who know me personally know I OFTEN speak before thinking so there are things daily I wish I could press the rewind button. Today I have been asked to talk about "do-overs" by Frigidaire.

A Few words from Frigidaire:
The Frigidaire Gallery™Dishwasher gets dishes fully cleaned the first time, so there are no dish do-overs. Nearly half of adults admit to re-washing and/or re-drying dishes after the dishwasher cycle has been completed. To prevent dishwasher do-overs, Frigidaire® is stepping in with its new Gallery® Dishwasher featuring the OrbitCleanTM Wash Arm, ensuring dishes are cleaned right the first time.

I am going to get a little personal on my blog today as I talk about what I would like to do over in my life. Part of me wants to say there is nothing I would redo because I have only grown from these experiences, but I can't.

I went through a couple years in my life where my main focus was my weight and I was VERY self-centered.  I know this is typical for a lot of teenage girls, but I seemed to be obsessed with it. It started in high school and continued throughout college and got better once I got married but didn't completely change for me until I had my son. It would be all I thought and talked about. It even got worse as I became an NBA dancer. The organization I danced for was amazing. It was nothing they said or did. It was my insecurity and jealousy to be the best, skinniest, prettiest etc, that made the atmosphere toxic for me. It was a job based not just on your dance abilities, but also your looks, and I knew that signing up.  Dance was always a passion of mine, but the dancing was over shadowed by my insecurities and it wasn't fun anymore. It is safe to say I was depressed, I just wasn't myself, and I started hating the person I was becoming. I remember feeling very guilty thinking of my weight so much because I had a handicap brother who would of killed to be any shape or size and have the ability to walk, yet here I was crying over my thighs; however, I couldn't stop. I really had a problem. I dabbled in eating disorders and unhealthy ways to lose weight and I still wasn't losing weight. Turns out I was allergic to a lot of certain foods I was eating every day, like Gluten. Now, don't get me wrong I never was over weight, but as a dancer I was the biggest one. In my mind I could of been a size zero and I still wouldn't of be happy. I really believe I had a major body complex issue because there was nothing about my physical appearance I liked. I don't know why I was so insecure, but It was something I couldn't control, and I simply needed help.

For years, I had GREAT friends, but I wasn't a great friend back. If you asked me if I thought I was self-centered, I would of quickly responded, "no." It wasn't until I got out of that atmosphere and had my son that I looked back and wished I could of changed the way I was. I wish I enjoyed college and dancing more and not been so focused on myself.

I was actually just talking to my friend about what changed it all for me. What made me go from counting every calorie I took in, working out like crazy, talking about it constantly, and thinking about it, to just not really caring. I wish I knew exactly, but the only thing I can think of is having my son. When I became a mom EVERYTHING changed for the better. I used to be allergic to gluten, lactose and tolerant, and many more health problems that contributed to my weight gain, which in turn continued my obsession.  After having my son, all those things went away

Can I get a Hallefreakinlujah?

Now even though this is all great, the best part of having a kid is you are forced to put someone's needs before yours.  When you are in the service of other people you are simply happier. I have learned this first hand.  I was looking for happiness in all the worldly things. I was OF the world, not just IN the world. When I had my son I just wanted to be the best mom. When I think of why my mom is the best mom out there, her weight was never a reason for being a good or bad mom. Your children don't care if you are tall, short, fat, or skinny. What is going to make me a good mom is teaching him about service, love, God, and just loving him unconditionally.

I can honestly say that now it is just a struggle to get my lazy butt to the gym. I am the polar opposite. I wish maybe I cared a little more now, Ha! I don't think twice about what I eat and I never thought that day would come.  I don't know if I just have tried to block that all out, but I don't even remember those days that I would go with my friends to Wendy's and order just a slice of tomato wrapped in lettuce. Ironically, I am smaller now than I ever was obsessing over it. Now there is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself, being into fitness, and eating healthy, but when it gets to the point where I was in my life, it just isn't healthy.

My mom was always the voice of reason in my life during those years and she would always say I need to get real problems in my life if that is all I thought about, and was SO RIGHT!

WOW...

Now some of you know me way more than you would ever want to :)

So, If I had a redo in life that is one of the things I would change. I spent so much time wasted and friendships missed. However, because of these issues I know I am a better person and everyone has their struggles. Through our trials we grow. I am grateful for the two boys in my life who have helped me overcome this challenge and who look at me as if I could do no wrong. These boys are my life!

Lemonade Stand Transformation

My mom had this at the side of her house for years and I never paid much attention to it, but with a little paint it worked perfectly for my lemonade stand.

How To:

  • Sand down everything. I left some of the old paint in certian areas because I wanted my new paint to look like it was weathered and chipping. I know I am weird but I wanted it to look old.
  • Prime: I used Krylon Primer
  • Paint
  • Sand down desired areas so the underneath color shows through

Lemonade Stand

Lemonade week has been fun. Tomorrow I still have a tutorial on how I painted the lemonade stand but today is the day I am going to show the whole set up. For anyone who missed the first couple days. Day 1 was lemonade chalk board signs. Day 2 was the photo booth/ lemonade bench. Day 3... well that is just how ugly I looked when setting up this party :) Maybe this will inspire you to have your own lemonade stand – you could donate the proceeds for a tax deduction when you use TurboTax online this year!

Today is the day where we get to see the whole lemonade stand! I loved how it turned out, but most importantly the kids and I were having a blast. The kids, because they could eat  candy and drink all the lemonade, and me, well we all know I get overly excited over a paper straw and pendant flags. Sad I know :)

ALSO...
I think there is so much more to kids selling lemonade than earning money and keeping the kids entertained. Having your kids sell lemonade is a great opportunity to teach them how to manage money, subtracting the overhead cost, and how to save. You know your kids would be bored out of their mind if you just sat them down and tried to teach them about these things. So, you can disguise the fact you are teaching them about money management when you incorporate it in with a lemonade stand.

Plus your kids are going to LOVE you when people are lined up at their drink station. You know if you saw this set up you would stop!
